Manchester United have handed their Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard a new contract

Impressed by the goalkeeper’s assured performances last season, Manchester United have handed their Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard a new four-year contract at the club.

The 28-year old made a move from Norwegian club Aalesund 18 months back for a reported £3.5 million, and despite seeing the Red Devils sign young Spanish custodian David de Gea last summer, has certainly held his own in the chances he has received.

Given a chance in United’s regular eleven after a couple of De Gea’s gaffes, Lindegaard was extremely solid, and was very unfortunate to sustain a serious ankle injury in January when he was making the goalkeeper’s spot his own.

Returning to the Red Devils’ side for their pre-season tour, Lindegaard has again shown great ability, and after signing a new four-year deal, insisted that there was no other club he would rather be at.

“I’m very pleased to have signed a new contract,” Lindegaard told the club’s official website.

“I’m glad and proud that the manager has shown the confidence he has in me by giving me a new deal.

“It’s what I have dreamt of all my life and nothing makes me more proud than wearing the Manchester United badge.”

Lindegaard also insisted that the competition for the goalkeeping place would benefit both the club and the players themselves, and would drive him to perform better whenever given an opportunity.
